Feb 22, 2015 Cascading Water painting

I am following this intermediate class of Jerry Yarnell. It's an almost 3 hrs lesson but took me almost 8 hours to finish this painting. I didn't like the brown rocks painted on the lesson and changed it to grey-ish moss rocks instead.

This painting is done on 18x24 inches of stretched canvas using acrylic paints.

Reminders of the Past, Feb 15, 2015

It took me a while to gather my courage to paint this old style Victorian house that is abandoned. This painting is called "Reminders of the past", lesson on TV by Jerry yarnell. It's a more intermediate lesson and I wasn't sure I could do it.
But, slowly following his lesson, I was able to finish.

This painting is done on 16x20 inches stretched canvas using acrylic paints.

Feb 13, 2015 Deer Latch Hook Rug

I purchased this latch hook kit back on January 7, 2015 because it reminded me what I used to make when I was growing up. This one has 15 colors and I love deer and mountain behind it, so I decided to re-learn and made this.

It took me 5 weeks to make this and it turns out beautiful.
The size is 20x27 inches.

I fell in love with this raccoon picture from Brenda Harris' book and one of the reason I got the book. But took me a while to get out of my comfort zone and painted this. Finally, I decided to do it. I started sketching yesterday and painted the background and finally finished it today.

This Raccoon is painted on 16x20 canvas panel using acrylic paints.

Feb 3, 2015 Hummingbird painting

I've always love birds and hummingbird is just amazing. I even have hummingbird feeders. Somehow few years back, there were a lot of them coming to my backyard, but now they came fewer and fewer.

Anyways, this is my second time painting hummingbird. The first one was at painting class. This one was based on Jerry yarnell's lesson.

This painting is done on 16x20 inches stretched canvas using acrylic paints.

Grist Mill painting, February 1, 2015

I've always loved the grist mill buildings. Something about the water wheel around the building and the history of it is very interesting.

Maybe someday I can see working grist mill, grinding grain into flour in person, if such place still exists.

Anyway, I paint this based on the book by Brenda Harris. I painted this on 12x16 inches canvas panel, using acrylic paints.

January 25, 2015 Great Heron Painting

This is my first painting following Brenda Harris' book. It's a painting of Great Heron. I love the colors and how peaceful this painting looks so I decided to learn it. It was really fun although tedious with the feather, but it's so beautiful.

This painting is on 16x20 canvas panel using acrylic paints.

Chinese Bridge, January 22, 2015

Inspired by the painting book by Dorothy Dent, I painted this and made the regular bridge into Chinese red bridge. I painted this on 12x16 inches canvas panel using acrylic paints, mostly DecoArt Americana paints.

I'm not really happy with this painting but don't know why. Maybe because I like to paint in more muted, pastel colors and somehow this painting uses a lot of bold main colors.

I've recorded my favorite painter on TV, Jerry Yarnell.
Today I've tried it and it's called "Pheasant in the Rough". It's on 16x20 inches stretched canvas using acrylic paints.

It was a challenge to do this painting but I learned a lot. I love painting old cabin and snow scene, so this one is perfect.

Jan 11, 2015 Blue "Cape Cod" style house

I purchase a painting tutorial book called "cottages and villages" a month ago.
Finally I decided to try it today. It's a great project to do while it's grey and cold outside.

I used 11x14 canvas board with acrylic paints. Surprisingly, this one has a lot more details than I anticipated and took me 7.5 hours to finish.
Surely pretty though and worth every minutes.

Forest Fall Painting, Nov 8, 2014

I painted this scene (kind of Oregon-like scene) based on Tim Gagnon's tutorial.
It's on 11x14 inches stretched cotton canvas using acrylic paints.

I didn't exactly follow the tutorial at the end and added things here and there, but it really was fun painting this. I want to give this painting as a gift for someone who hopefully will be reminded of living in Oregon.

Nov 4, 2014 Winter Barn oil painting

I tried painting Winter Barn using oil paints for the first time today and followed one of the Bob Ross' video.
To be honest, I didn't like it at all. It's stinky, so hard to blend, so hard to clean the brushes and my hands and too wet.
I am glad I tried, but I think I'll stick back to my acrylic paints from now on.

Here is my Winter Barn oil painting. I used 16x20 inches canvas with oval shaped in the middle. Paints used: titanium white, mars black, prussian blue, van dyke brown and bright red.

Oct 28, 2014 Giraffe Painting

I painted this Giraffe based on the dvd of Jerry Yarnell's inspiration of painting. It's my first closed-up animal painting and it was challenging, especially making the face and all the fur.
Although I'm more into landscape paintings, I want to learn so many other techniques so someday I can paint everything.

I paint this on 16x20 inches canvas using acrylic paints: gesso, cadmium red medium, cadmium yellow light, cadmium orange, hooker's green, ultramarine blue, diox. purple.
